MBBS in India can be considered the best option among all other choices available for aspiring medical students because of its quality education system, affordability and prospects. Private MBBS College in India 2026
As of 2026, India has a total of 368 private medical colleges, offering 65,893 MBBS seats across the country. These institutions play a crucial role in expanding medical education and addressing the growing demand for qualified doctors in India.
The 368 private medical colleges include private medical colleges, private university–affiliated colleges, deemed-to-be university medical colleges, and minority medical colleges. Admission to all these colleges is conducted strictly through NEET UG, in accordance with the norms and regulations prescribed by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
Government Medical Colleges in India 2026
As per official data, India has 456 Government Medical Colleges offering MBBS admission with a total intake of 63,780 MBBS seats. This includes 4 Central Government Medical Colleges, 410 State Government Medical Colleges, 20 ESIC Medical Colleges, 20 AIIMS Institutes, 1 JIPMER (2 Campus), and 1 Armed Forces College. Admission to government MBBS seats is conducted through NEET UG via All India Quota (AIQ) and State-level counselling authorities.

- B.V.Sc. (Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry )(B.V.Sc. & A.H.). It is a 5.5-year undergraduate medical degree (4.5 years of coursework plus a 1-year compulsory internship) required to practice as a veterinarian.
- Ayurvedic & Homeopathic (BAMS & BHMS): 5.5-year programs focused on traditional and alternative medical systems.
- B.Sc. Nursing: 4-year degree focusing on patient care, hospital administration, and clinical services.
- B.Pharm. (Bachelor of Pharmacy): 4-year program centered on drug formulation, pharmaceutical sciences, and research.
- BPT (Bachelor of Physiotherapy): 4.5-year program focused on physical rehabilitation and movement sciences.
- Diagnostics & Imaging Technology: 3-to-4-year degrees specializing in X-rays, MRI scans, CT scans, and medical lab technology (BMLT)

Choice Locking
Finalize and lock your selected choices before the deadline to confirm your preferences.
Seat Allocation
Seats are allotted based on NEET rank, category, preferences, and seat availability.
Result Checking
Check and download your seat allotment result from the official counselling portal.
College Reporting

Government medical college fees are highly subsidized, generally ranging from ₹50,000 to ₹2.5 Lakhs per year. Private colleges and deemed universities can charge anywhere from ₹10 Lakhs to ₹30+ Lakhs per year.
Private institutions allocate a percentage of seats for NRI (Non-Resident Indian) or Management Quota. These seats are filled through counseling but require significantly higher tuition fees.
